Personal Auto Stay-at-Home Premium Credit

Frequently Asked Questions

We are all experiencing disruptions to our lives and our work due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To help you weather this uncertain time, Cincinnati is applying a 15% premium credit to all personal lines auto policies. If you have a question that is not answered here, please contact your local independent agent.

It’s taken all of us staying at home, keeping our distance and practicing strong personal hygiene to slow the spread of COVID-19. We are offering this credit as a result of your reduced driving.

No, you do not need to take any action to receive your credit. The credit applies automatically to all Cincinnati personal lines auto policies during the months of April and May.

Cincinnati suspended individual policy cancellations due to nonpayment of premiums in March, April and May. Pausing cancellations was not a waiver of payment, but an extension or grace period for those directly impacted by the pandemic. As businesses and organizations begin to reopen, we will now return to enforcing normal payment schedules. Beginning in June – or later if required by an individual state – we will send invoices to policyholders directly billed by Cincinnati who have outstanding balances from the suspended cancellation period.

We understand that many people are still out of work or living on reduced income. If you continue to experience financial hardship due to COVID-19 and cannot pay the full past due balance, Cincinnati or your local independent agent may be able to help. Please contact us at 888-242-8811, Ext 2002.

We are currently processing premium credits and expect to complete the process for all states except New York by the end of June. Credits for New York policyholders will be processed by the end of July. Once we apply the credits, eligible policyholders should receive them in 7-14 days.

Policyholders who pay your premium directly to Cincinnati Insurance: If you don’t have any unpaid premium for the remainder of your policy term, you will receive a check directly from Cincinnati or a deposit to your bank account if you have signed up for Electronic Funds Transfer. Otherwise, you will receive a 15% credit on your next billing statement.

Policyholders who pay your premium to your agent: You will receive a check directly from Cincinnati. Please continue to pay any remaining installments as usual.

Yes. We are filing this credit in all states, including those without a formal stay-at-home order.

No. If you are not insured with us for the entirety of either month, you will receive a pro-rated credit.

You will receive a pro-rated credit if you are a new policyholder beginning in April or May.

We will evaluate conditions in each state individually to consider the most appropriate future action, if any.
